A person's
perception on life is very much affected by the way they were raised, their
school experience, and their friendship choices. Our online identities are
somewhat filtered to what we chose to show the digital world. These identities
are not always a true version of self or the opposite of self, but are often
somewhere in between.
Google has a goal
of organizing the world's information to make a user friendly database. This
database has since been available nearly anywhere in the world, creating a
network, which users can research; interact, and share information
instantaneously. The digital network has allowed humanity to connect in a way
never seen before. It creates an open environment where people can learn,
research and explore at the touch of a button. (McNiell, 2012)
Changes in
technology, first became changes in cultural communities, to trains and people
who now own things and are not just oral or even literary, but digital.
(Kuttainen, 2016) Nearly everyone in Australia has some sort of an online
presence or profile. Today, it is almost impossible not to. We all struggle to
control what personal information is accessible to another person via the
digital world. Even using a search engine these days, will monitor your
searches and tailor the adds on your online account to your searches. In the
TED talk, "Your Online Life, Permanent as a Tattoo," Enriquez speaks
about how your online profile acts the same way as a tattoo: it shows a lot
about you as a person, and it's permanent. The dangers of having an online
profile have never been more real, and more unavoidable.
